My World, Word and Story

SGBlogAwards Great? Maybe

OMY.sg recently hosted the first ever (more hyped up I guess and bigger scaled to be called the first) Singapore Blog Awards. A competition for Singaporean based blogs I guess. There are several categories, 10 to be exact and I participated in one of them; the youth category. Its only criteria was that the blogger must be 16 and below. Bloggers that are not too handsome, not too tall, not too thin are all accepted. Even bloggers that have fetishes over polar bears are welcomed. It states that as long as you are a blogger (Singaporean) 16 or younger, you are eligible.

They contacted those who got through the first selection process by phone. I, being either lucky or a person that is worthy of being selected, had been called up by one of their staff (I think) to inform me about my acceptance into the top, well 10. I guess I felt happy, and excited at the same time upon receiving their call. It was kind of unexpected for them to call. I did not know how the selection process was like, or what or how they chose the top 10 of each category. But nevertheless I am hopeful and anxious to know what the results will be like and for the next few days I’ll be trying to pull votes in.

I hate my icon given to tag on my blog. Just take a look:

Why can’t I have stuff like:

or

Vote me or whatever. My bear wants the phone (Excuses. Heh)

Youth Category Link (I Play fair. You don’t have to vote me. Choose the best for yourself. May the best win I guess. *Shrugs*)

Back from NCO Camp and Taiwan Trip

A New Addition! The White Tiger!June Holidays 2008 was practically more like a 1 week March/September school break for me. Start of the holidays was the all so great weekend at the camp Resilience at Pulau Ubin. Tired and worked out, I came back home on the following Monday with around a week before I board the plane to Taiwan. As you know, holiday homework will definitely be present and as the days flew by, it slowly stacks up, finally piling up to a mountain of stress and work. Of course coming back from the all so great camp at Pulau Ubin would require me to take a few days of break. I rested and played hard, bonding so close with my PS3 and leaving no time at all for my textbooks to swing in. Before the Taiwan trip, I have another 2 days of full day courses. There goes another 2 days of resting. Time passes quickly and it is time for the Taiwan trip. I went for around a week, spending money and time resting (supposedly, well I prefer resting at home but still.) at the hotels there etc. Back the following week later, I had only two days of rest, before my recent NCO (Non-Commissioned Officer. Something like a preparation camp for us students before we take over the unit) camp starts. It was way exhausting and painful physically. The camp was carried out for around 3 days and I recently came back home not too long ago. Now I am left with practically a few more days before school start. Should I rest? Or maybe I should perhaps start working on my homework? Oh well, that sure is stressful and a difficult decision to make. It is like choosing from a million of dollars or a million of cents. Resting is just so tempting. Argh.  Anyways, lets not talk about that, instead lets talk about my camp and trip.

Report and Reflections: March April May 08

March April May 08 reports are all combined together for a few reasons. Throughout all three months, I have been extremely busy with school and other activities. Mid-year examinations are very important and therefore had to spend a little more time preparing for it than usual. For March I had a camp during the week break and loads of homework on other days. April was the preparations for the mid-year examinations and half of May itself was the papers themselves. All of these adding up give me little to no time at all to compile any data or anything for presentation. However, now that my first semester holidays are on the way, I had some time (little though as I still have a lot of other activities undergoing) to dish this report up.

Area 16 NPCC Survivor Camp 08

Just came back, yesterday to be exact, from my UYO (Uniform Youth Organization) NPCC (National Police Cadet Corps) Survivor Camp held at Pulau Ubin. Hmm, I have always disliked such camps as I hated the discomfort and tiresome activities that are carried out. Call me spoilt or whatever but I admit it. I really wonder what I would become when it is time for me to serve the army. AHH! Thinking about that instantly gives me the shivers. Anyways, as I was saying, the camp was somewhat like the previous camp I attended not too long ago (around 6 months back) at Pulau Ubin as well (ATC, Adventure Training Camp). This time around, what were different were the activities that were carried out.

As usual and expected, we were suppose to sleep in tents, slug our guts out running here and there, calming and tolerating all the scolding and complaints by the officers in-charge and enjoying the last day of the camp as officers then were suddenly holy and nice. It is so cliché; everything was as if it was replayed from the previous camp. Same old words, same old scolding, same old everything. It was like watching the same video twice (but an exception of some other EXTRA bonus features).

P.S The following might bore you to death. Good for bed night stories.

I Flunked the Examinations

Everyone has their own expectations. I am no exception. Everyone has their bests, I do as well. Therefore my opinion of flunking the examinations is my marks getting below 60%. Never in my whole education life so far did I ever get an average score of below 70%. Perhaps I am too demanding? Many of you might say “Holy cow, 70%? That’s like heavenly high!” Yeah, but for me, it is my average marks I ought to achieve.

During the examination period I had no self discipline. I played for an hour before starting to mug and I only started revising (or actually studying in my case) around a week before the examinations are about to begin. Some subjects I had only a day to actually learn the new concepts due to the fact that I care less about me not fully understanding the topic taught in school and not bothering to ask. However, regretting is of no use. I ought to pull up my socks and start preparing for the later examinations.

Here are my marks for you to look down on, oh well. (I totally deserve it)

SUBJECTS TERM 1 TERM 2 OVERALL MARK OVERALL POINT
Advanced Mathematics 72 78 75.4 6
Biology 73 55 62.7 5
Chemistry 90 57 71.1 6
Core Mathematics 90 59 72.3 6
Higher Chinese 72 47 57.7 4
IHS (Smth like Hist.) 80 53 64.6 5
English 74 68 71.0 6
Physics 63 53 57.3 4

Total: 532/800
Avgr: 66.50

It was thanks to my term 1 results that help pulled my overall semester’s average up by around 10%. Without considering the term 1 results, my average would have been well below 60%, and that is actually extremely horrible for my standard. That is it for today, loads of reflecting need to be done, loads of work to catch up to.

Report and Reflections: February 08

February 08 had been extremely hectic and stressful for me. There were extra curriculum activities, competitions and examinations to cope with, resulting in extremely packed and tiring days and weeks. However, I did beforehand tell you readers that my examinations went rather well (for me). I am glad to say that though the days were tough and exhausting, I managed to endure through them. Also, I took a scholarship test in the month of January and the results are out. I am sad to say that I have failed to clinch the scholarship and that I have wasted the opportunity to get a free education till I am 18 and a cash amount of $15,000 (for 4 years after deducting the miscellaneous fees etc). How sad. Demoralized and down but still, life has to go on. Besides, it is just $15,000, an amount that JUST requires me to earn the same amount the site is currently earning for around a century. Hmm that was kind of sarcastic but oh well. What is gone is gone, there is no point crying over spilt milk. Perhaps I did not have the capabilities or the potential to be one of the creams of the crop. Nevertheless, the site has been doing rather well; increasing inhabitants visiting it (did not reach my target though). Oh and lastly, I have learnt how to record in-game footage for the PS3 WOO. Boo though as the resolutions are like terribly disgusting. Right, perhaps I’ll grab some screenies from other sites or freelance ps3 gamer screen capturers (asking permission of course). Till then, I guess that is all I have and below is the details of the events that took place and some of my goals for what lies ahead.

An Update on my Life

You might be interested or not. But I find that it is very important to update my readers on my site current status as well as happenings on my personal life. I have not been updating my site for almost a week as recently there is not much interesting things to post or blog about. Game reviews that might be coming in before December 7th are as follows: Need for Speed: Prostreet, Eschalon: Book I. Why before December 7th? That is mainly because I am about to go abroad to Melbourne, Australia for a one week holiday. School is around a month away and textbooks ought to have me giving them some attention. Life is as normal as usual except I just got hooked onto the English drama series called Heroes. Started around a week ago, I have recently finished season 1 and now onto season 2. The show was and is AWESOME. Storyline fantastic, actors act well and everything was practically near perfect. You guys ought to watch it if you have not done so and continue to do so if you are as hooked as me. Right, so that is about it. Lack of updates cause there are lack of events that actually interest me. Oh and if you are a ping.sg user or something, you ought to take a look at their official t-shirt that have just been released. Take a look at it:

Have fun and wish you all the best in whatever you guys do!

End of Month Report and Reflections

August 2007
A month has gone by so fast. Finished my term 3’s examinations and now awaiting the finals. Stressful it is I must say. It is to the level that once it is time to relax, I do not even feel good at all. You know the feeling of me studying, worrying for my next subject and so on. I often feel that way; it is scary as I find myself hard to relax. Putting that aside, SwiftWorld is now officially 2 month old. Started in July, my site/blog has gain a number of hits and visits from people all around the world. Not too impressive but still, I feel good when I saw the improvement in the number of visitors compared to July. August is gone and now waiting for September. It has been a fruitful month; gain quite a lot of experiences through reading through web mastering forums and so on. Asked for opinions and comments on my content and articles and not much complaints and I am really glad of that. Without further ado, let us check the statistics for the month of August, and then followed by some reflecting on my personal life. (more…)

New Logo and Banner!

If you have been observant enough, you will notice that the banner on top has been changed! I made a new logo and a new title that fits and blends rather well with the template. Well, that is my opinion anyways. What about you guys? Do you think the new logo and banner is worst than before? Or simply more magnificent and beautiful? I would like to hear your comments, if possible.

After - Swift World Logo 2.0

I know I have not been updating recently. That is due to the heavy workload I am currently getting from school. However, I will try my best to put up at least 1 interesting article per week. I hope you people can understand as I am not a full-time professional blogger, I can not dedicate all my time to just blogging etc, I still have my studies which are more important. The most important final year examinations would be coming in around 5 to 6 weeks time and during that period, I will be extremely busy. However, like I previously said, I will try my best to put up at least 1 interesting article per week so don’t you dare to not come back to my site.

Anyways, that is about it.
